Frequently asked questions

Does the app need an internet connection?

No. All vocabulary, audio (Apple's built-in TTS), stroke data, and reading passages are bundled in the app. It works fully offline.

Does my progress sync between iPhone and iPad?

Not in version 1.0. Progress is stored locally on each device. iCloud sync may be added in a future update.

Are there subscriptions or in-app purchases?

No. GOAT HSK is a single one-time purchase. No ads, no subscriptions, no tracking.

Which HSK standard does the app use?

The 2021 HSK 3.0 nine-level standard, with all 11,000+ entries. Levels 7–9 are merged into a combined "advanced" tier per the official standard.

What spaced-repetition algorithm is used?

FSRS-5 with Anki-default parameters.

How do I change the daily reminder time?

Settings → Reminder → toggle on, then pick a time. The reminder fires in your device's local time zone.

How do I reset my progress?

Settings → Reset progress. This clears spaced-repetition cards, session history, and read-marks. The vocabulary itself stays bundled.

Audio is silent — what's wrong?

Check that your device is not on silent mode and that Mandarin (zh-CN) text-to-speech voices are installed (Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Chinese on iOS).

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the GOAT HSK purchase, and choose "Request a refund."

What data does the app collect about me?
